The Therapeutic Power of Music
They say music is the universal language of all mankind. Here at Trifecta this concept of harmonic unity has continued to follow suit. Upon entering the clinic, patients have the option to select what type of music they would like to listen to; conveniently powered by our unpredictable friend Alexa. This allows them to fully harness the power of music during their session.
Throughout my time interning here, I have come to understand music’s role in a rehab setting. Let’s be honest: rehab isn’t fun. However, a tune or two in the background can make all the difference for any patient going through therapy.
A Genre For Everyone
We get all kinds of requests and genres that come through the clinic. Since being here, we’ve had requests for legendary 90’s and early 2000 artists such as Missy Elliot, DMX, Ludacris, Three 6 Mafia, Dr. Dre, Eminem, Ja Rule, Destiny’s Child, 50 Cent, and The County Grammar rapper Nelly.
I mean the list just goes on.
Let’s not forget our other all-time greats, and guitar heroes such as Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bohemian Rhapsody, Eddie Van Halen, and Eric and the Animals.
Could I have possibly missed anything?
And to all you EDM, Tropical House Music, fist pumping, party don’t stop ’till you drop loving concert goers: Trifecta is the perfect place for you. (if you ever find yourself needing rehab from that last fist pump). Special shout out to Dr. Boyd for introducing me to artists like DJ Carnage, and Yellow Claw. These are the go to playlists and artists, when either him, myself, or our patients are having a brain fart, that we can count on when figuring out what to listen to.
Music’s Role in Rehab
It’s interesting to watch how patients begin to change their state of mind once granted the power to select music they please. Not only is music a conversation starter, it can be, and IS therapeutic, helping patients relax and making their time and experience during rehab much smoother.
As a 22-year-old millennial, I’ve learned a lot about artists I thought I’d never bother to take a glance at. But here I am, writing this blog about various artists we’ve run into. It keeps things lively and allows people to relax and reminisce while getting the FULL FECTA, or other manual therapy and services Dr.Boyd provides. It seems as though the Gen Ed. music classes we all once thought were irrelevant have come full circle. As my time here progresses, my library of music continues to expand, along with my therapeutic knowledge; building a stronger rapport with clients each day.
Every day here at Trifecta is a surprise, and I continue to look forward to the new and unexpected.
Keep those music requests coming!
